Middle class travel kills immigrants?

The virus first came home to Norway with the well-off middle class coming home from their skiing holiday in February. Recent articles in Aftenposten illustrate how the first infected quarters of Oslo were the well-off western parts. Two weeks later, the virus is rushing through the central old town and eastern immigrant districts with their narrower apartments and more collective lifestyles. Students in their shared apartmetns in lievly Grünerløkka as well as families in narrow immigrant housing areas.



Recent reports from both Sweden and Norway show an overproportional infection rate among Somali immigrants. In Oslo, in a response, information campaigns in many languages have been started. Volunteers approach and address minority citizens. In the immigrant-dominated Grønland district with its many minority grovery stores, shoppes with protective gear are predominant.


Oslo's parks and recreation areas are still open to the public with respect for social distancing rules. The rules are now posted on makeshift signposts that turn up in parks, showing guidelines in several languages.
