The Edge of Doom

The weather turned from the sunny moods of spring to dense, humid air and dark clouds, illuminated by an infernalic sunset hovering over Oslo's inner city, with mount Kolsås showing as a silhouette of Mordor in the background.
I always had liked the doomsday landscape painters, even before the coronavirus outbreak. Thus I thought the depiction of Oslo besieged by a virus is is appropriately sketched by nature, and took the photo.
A great painting in this context is Thomas Cole's 'Expulsion, Moon and Firelight :

My favourite end of civilization painting is Samuel Colman's 'The Edge of Doom':
Colman's systematic dissolution of architecture that falls apart into its building blocks, frozen in the moment of capture is a fascinating perspective. it has actually been adapted into a full-length animated movie with an impressive 3D version of this doomsday idea: Dragon Hunters (see from min. 48:00 on). The heroes pursue their quest to save a world that increasingly falls apart, with an endgame in black world as dark and apocalyptic as in Colman's left side of the painting.

Anyway, time to cheer up with a bit of music! Play the Tiger Lillies with a musical interpretation of 'The crack of doom' while enjoying the pictures above!
