Curfew 21:00 - Ghost town Oslo
19-Mar-2020
Black windows. Empty streets. "Sorry we're closed" posed on entrance doors to pubs, bars, restaurants, take-aways, small shops, churches and mosques. Oslo's nightlife has been but under strict hygienic rules to battle corona virus, with a closing hour at 21:00. Social distancing is to be practiced with at least one meter distance between tables, people and staff. Smaller pubs cannot guarantee such, and therefore closed down. While strolling the deserted nightlife areas of Grønland and Grünerløkka after curfew, I felt like walking a ghost town. Hardly anyone was on the streets. Bars which I've always met open, anytime, were dark. I expected rolling shrub to blow down the street with a gust of wind. Instead, a thrown-away protective face mask came flying across the street in tiny circles, neatly landing in the gutter.

Kaffeekontoret - closed. |
Cacadou bar - a place not known to be not open. |
Aku Aku, Oslo's famous Tiki cocktail bar, one of the most persistent nightlife locations in the capital city - closed. |
Hopper - has anyone said 'Edward Hopper'? (Hint: Nighthawks). |
Enerhaugen, a classic "brown bar", reliable waterhole for the thirsty - shut down. |
One last burst of creativity expressed on the entrance door before it was locked. |
